Manasseh Azure Awuni, a freelancer has emerged the 2011 Ghana Journalist Association’s Journalist of the Year.
Azure was among several other journalists to have been honored at the 17th edition of the GJA awards. Out of the 434 entries, 35 journalists and media institutions were selected for 35 categories of awards.
Azure won four awards in other categories and also won the overall best journalist at the event held at the Banquet Hall, State House.
Last year, he won three awards as a freelance journalist while having his national service alongside.
Shortly after receiving his prize, Mr Azure expressed appreciation to God and said, ”God has made me to forget the hardships in my father’s house. My secret is God and very grateful to my father”.
“I encourage all parents that poverty is not an excuse not to educate your children”, he said and referred to the fact that, though his father is a poor night watchman, he made sacrifices for his education.
Azure has wowed the nation recently with his quality reporting and exciting thought provoking articles, notably ‘President Mills’ last letter to Rawlings’.
